I was hoping you could demonstrate his cleverness by way of referencing some posts which either showed some insight which wasn't gained from a conspiracy theorist or contained thought-provoking analyses of events and circumstances. It appeared to me that he underestimated the extent to which other people are aware of the sort of things he was posting about and mistook their rejection of his claims for ignorance rather than considered opinion. In fact, I remember a thread where Dr Bubb was essentially in agreement with CDSwamp but was called a mushroom because his version of the NWO PTB was not quite the dystopian nightmare CDS signed up to. In my book a clever person will able to demonstrate that his claims have merit and will not resort to calling his opponents shills or dismissing their intellect.

I used to get annoyed by CGNAO on HPC but only because he didn't say enough. The cryptic posts with a 100% guarantee and a suggestion of clairvoyance or insider information were irritating but not demeaning or offensive. The posters I valued least on HPC were the ones whose 100% certainty was not in financial market predictions, where one can be proved either right or wrong, but in some philosophy, such as the racists, militant smokers, anti-statists and climate change deniers (not the sceptics) who couldn't conceed that there could be circumstances where their views didn't hold true. Having someone redefine reality or declare that all other people must be tolerant of their habits while they show no tolerance in return can never lead to a worthwhile discussion. From what I read of CDSwamp, he fell into that category.

fwiw, a lot of cg's early stuff (2004-2006) was written very well, with clear explanations behind his reasoning, but I think over the years too many people shot him down, EVEN after he has been proven right.

Although I only came across his stuff about 2 years ago However I found every single thing he wrote & read it all, I kid you not. It took me ages to go through everything, then there would be terms/references that I didn't understand which I had to then go & find out about etc. I found a lot of it boring BUT necessary to read to understand the full picture. I have obviously got big gaps still in my financial/economic learning BUT I now know enough to intrepret the majority of stuff posted.

Hope that makes sense. :)

cdswamp was the primary reason?

Why didn’t you put him on your ignore list?

ziknik,

actually good point.

I don't understand when people say things like that. Magpie you should know better. :P

All,

you do all realise that you probably wouldn't get on with the majority of people on here if you met in real life.

Well, I periodically try to be less addicted to internet forums (/fora) and get some work done, so maybe he gave me an excuse.

Also, for some reason I don't like using the ignore list, always feel drawn to keep arguing instead. In this case I thought I might as well just bugger off.

perhaps if you read his book then you could really judge for yourself if he know's his stuff. ;)

That may well be so. The problem with conspiracies is not that they can't be proved or pretty darn close anyway, it's that there is often so much background reading involved that it's difficult to get the whole story across. I've been 100% internet and 0% TV for the last few years (it was a pretty high web % before that anyway) and have learned much more about the world than I would have done if this was the other way round so I know what you mean about having a feel for where there is and isn't a conspiracy (and the same for cock-up). Reading other people's posts I believe there are a lot of clued up people here who should be treated with more respect than CDS gave them. He did nothing to make me think I could learn from him, partly because he was not forthcoming with the background and also because he was too liberal with the insults. I hope he builds up the canvas gradually in the book.

There was a guy called Host on tfproject (he wasn't the site's host though) 8 or so years back who was warning the world that, among other things, China was the next great threat to the USA, primarily though manipulation of the currency. He took all sorts of abuse but still continued to post very long yet interesting posts containing copy/paste jobs or links to official news sources that showed why he thought the way he did. He must have had an immense bookmarks collection, all he did was join the dots and calmly, respectfully tell anyone who would listen. That's how it should be done. It helped that he was on a politics forum instead of an investment/alternative living website.

I agree the animosity that CDS showed was not the best way to get his point across, there are much more productive ways.

Actually I might have been being a teensy bit of a drama queen when I said that... Just happened to get hacked off by him at a moment when I needed to concentrate on getting some work done rather than hanging around here.

I'll probably still pass through from time to time, whether he turns up again or not.

That's fine.

Would be interested in what you find on "the other place" that isnt here.

Be honest, please

Hmmm, they're just like two slightly different local pubs. I like both, but am more in the habit of getting involved in conversations over there. (Part of the reason I like these forums is the slightly unserious side of them, the humour and intelligent conversation etc).

Also I suppose my general situation means I find slightly more conversations over there that I want to get involved in. I've not a lot of wealth to invest right now so my interest in the pure investment side of things is only an academic one. Obviously I enjoy talking about gold and money in economic terms and it is all interesting stuff in terms of the overall situation the global economy is in. But I am not right now in a position to do a lot of investing and if I get a bit further ahead than I am right now I would be more inclined to use the money to support going into my own business than to invest in external opportunities.

So the housing/landlord/renting/London chat on the other side sometimes draws me more than the more pure economics/investment on this channel.

(Plus, if I start getting involved in both too regularly then I end up not getting any work done at all.)

Thanks for that. Makes alot of sense.

Good luck on the work front.

I am pondering what, if anything, GEI can do to help people improve their effectiveness and work choices.

Short of closing down, of course.

next question please....... anyone from the back row ?...

I haven't written much on the cdswamp issue. As many, I think in the end he used a few 4-letter words too many. I usually don't have the time to read his extensive posts. I also think that much in the world can be blamed on stupidity and ignorance, certainly one does not need conspiracies to explain most things. I think Bubb is extremely tolerant in considering lifting the ban (many people wouldn't after a shower of 4-letter words).

just to let you ALL know, I recieved an email from cdswamp today.

I am waiting to hear what he would like to put as his text to Dr. Bubb, so I will keep you informed using my account until a decision has been made. :)

ps - those of you that don't like his posting style & content, get yer tin foil hats out in readiness. ;)

edited to add - he has been away from a pc for a while, hence the slow reply back to me. He has been spending some quality time with his family.

He has suggested obtaining the Golden Fleece as a start ?? :)

Thats good news indeed.

Not all of which were his words. A few links, for the purpose of clarity and giving credit to who did write it really is needed.

Dr Bubb,

I don't think he was being serious about the Golden Fleece tbh ;) , but he does want back in under his old username.

What would you like him to do ? :)

Put on a dress and say sorry :P

No dress needed. Pants are more than adequate.

An apology will be useful.

He will win more friends here, if he makes his posts a bit shorter.

But eliminating the abusive language is a necessity.
