Democrat Presidential Candidate Tulsi Gabbard Defends Fringe Leaders’ Free Speech Rights After Facebook Ban

Democratic Hawaii Rep. and presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard criticized Facebook for banning fringe leaders during her appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast Monday.

Facebook and Instagram banned Alex Jones and his outlet, Infowars; Milo Yiannopoulos; Paul Joseph Watson; Laura Loomer; Paul Nehlen; and Louis Farrakhan, earlier this month. They went as far as to label these individuals as “dangerous.”

“Let’s talk about free speech. There’s just been news recently about Facebook banning certain individuals from having Facebook accounts because of their speech. They disagree with the speech that they’re using or the things that they’re talking about, the ideas they’re pushing forward, unchecked, First Amendment rights going completely out the window,” Gabbard explained.

Rogan then explained, “The argument is they don’t apply because it’s a private company. Right?”

“Yes but they’re trying to get the best of both worlds. The fact that you know they’re claiming to say, ‘Hey this is a free space for open communication for everyone,” Gabbard responded. “While at the same time going and saying, ‘Actually you know Joe, I don’t like what you’re saying about this so we’re going to ban you and whoever your friends are from this conversation.'”

THIS bitty loon is the first One Tulsi needs to Bury

190626211056-10-2020-dem-debate-0626-war

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts came in second with 12.26 per cent of the vote.

Elizabeth Warren will be the only one of the top polling Democratic candidates on the debate stage Wednesday night, giving her a chance to showcase her mastery of policy details without her main competitors available for rebuttal.

The liberal firebrand from Massachusetts has steadily risen in polls over the last two months and is drawing crowds on the campaign trail by using an expansive portfolio of proposals on a series of issues to brand herself as a candidate with a plan.

Warren has been focused on claiming the mantle of leader of the party’s progressive faction from Bernie Sanders and contrasting her plans for far-reaching changes in how the government operates with the more incrementalist approach of front-runner Joe Biden, which she has labeled “small ideas.”

Sanders and Biden and her other two main rivals, Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg will debate the following night. That gives Warren a chance to stay above the fray of the debate with nine other candidates sharing the debate stage with her in Miami, all of whom have been been drawing 3 per cent or less in several recent polls.

“She has systematically worked her way up in the polls,” said Mary Anne Marsh, a Democratic consultant based in Boston. “She has all but overcome Sanders at this point. She’s got Biden in her sights.”

/ 2 .

Senator Elizabeth Warren stood center stage on the first night of the Democratic debate — and emerged unscathed. Her lower-polling rivals did nothing to knock her off course and didn’t challenge her claim to being the strongest alternative to front-runner Joe Biden.

“None of them have laid a glove on her,” said Mary Anne Marsh, a Boston-based Democratic consultant.

Not once in the two-hour debate in Miami did any of the nine other candidates turn to Warren and challenge her. It was a gift that allowed her to stick to her stump speech and deliver a progressive message to millions of people on everything from the corrosive effect of corporate money to gun control, without getting distracted or having to react to a sharp retort.

In many ways, the debate was fought on Warren’s turf, with a focus on income inequality, busting corporate power and battling Republicans in Congress. She showed her command on policy issues animating the Democratic base, like health care and clean energy, as the party’s voters try to choose a candidate to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020.

“When you’ve got a government, when you’ve got an economy that does great for those with money and isn’t doing great for everyone else, that is corruption, pure and simple,” Warren said. “We need to call it out. We need to attack it head on. And we need to make structural change in our government, in our economy, and in our country.”

POST DEBATE INTERVIEW

A partial transcript is as follows:

JOEL POLLAK: The Drudge straw poll has you winning by far. You had 38 percent of the votes, which is three times as many as second place, which is Elizabeth Warren. How do you feel you reached that audience. What was it that carried it for you?

REP. TULSI GABBARD: I’m grateful to have had this opportunity here tonight to present who I am and why I’m running for president to the American people. I think it’s important that we all recognize that we need a president who will serve the needs of every American in this country, who will put their interest ahead of their own. That’s not what we have right now. Those values and principles of service above self are what I seek to bring to the White House to make sure the voices of the American people are heard.

POLLAK: There was a very interesting exchange between you and Tim Ryan in that debate. He was taking the position of wanting to keep U.S. military deployed abroad and you really crushed that position. Tell us a little bit about how that exchange felt.

REP. GABBARD: The reason why this is so important is because the most important responsibility that the president has is to serve as commander-in-chief. Of all the candidates who are running for president, I’m the one who is most qualified to fulfill that responsibility to walk into the Oval Office and serve as commander-in-chief. And I think you heard tonight some of the reasons why those who lack the experience, lack the understanding, and conviction would, unfortunately, put our country in a place where we’d end up waging more wars, costing us more lives and tax-payer dollars. This is why I’m running for president, to be that person, to be that change in our foreign policy and those regime-change wars, new cold wars nuclear arms races and invest our precious dollars into serving the needs of our people.

BUCHANAN: Trump should trade Bolton for Tulsi...

“For too long our leaders have failed us, taking us into one regime-change war after the next, leading us into a new cold war and arms race, costing us trillions of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars and countless lives. This insanity must end.”

Donald Trump, circa 2016?

Nope. That denunciation of John Bolton interventionism came from Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii during Wednesday night’s Democratic debate. At 38, she was the youngest candidate on stage.

Gabbard proceeded to rip both the “president and his chickenhawk cabinet (who) have led us to the brink of war with Iran.”

In a fiery exchange, Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio countered that America cannot disengage from Afghanistan: “When we weren’t in there they started flying planes into our buildings.”

“The Taliban didn’t attack us on 9/11,” Gabbard replied, “Al-Qaida attacked us on 9/11. That’s why I and so many other people joined the military, to go after al-Qaida, not the Taliban.”

When Ryan insisted we must stay engaged, Gabbard shot back:

“Is that what you will tell the parents of those two soldiers who were just killed in Afghanistan? ‘Well, we just have to be engaged.’ As a solider, I will tell you, that answer is unacceptable. … We are no better off in Afghanistan that we were when this war began.”

....If she makes it into the second round, Gabbard could become the catalyst for the kind of globalist vs. nationalist debate that broke out between Trump and Bush Republicans in 2016, a debate that contributed to Trump’s victory at the Cleveland convention and in November.

The problem Gabbard presents for Democrats is that, as was shown in the joust with Ryan, she takes positions that split her party, while her rivals prefer to talk about what unites the party, like the terribleness of Trump, free college tuition and soaking the rich.

Given more airtime, she will present problems for the GOP as well. For the foreign policy Tulsi Gabbard is calling for is not far off from the foreign policy Donald Trump promised in 2016 but has since failed to deliver.

We still have 2,000 troops in Syria, 5,000 in Iraq, 14,000 in Afghanistan. We just moved an aircraft carrier task force, B-52s and 1,000 troops to the Persian Gulf to confront Iran. We are about to impose sanctions on the Iranian foreign minister with whom we would need to negotiate to avoid a war.

By debate’s end, Gabbard was the runaway winner in both the Drudge Report and Washington Examiner polls and was far in front among all the Democratic candidates whose names were being searched on Google.

MIAMI — Among some conservative pundits there was one clear winner of Wednesday night’s Democratic primary debate: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, the long-shot, anti-war Hawaii member of Congress.

More than any other Democratic candidate, Gabbard has developed a favorable presence in the right-wing media. She’s made appearances from time to time on Fox News shows like Tucker Carlson Tonight, and her unorthodox candidacy has attracted praise from those farther to the right as well. Gabbard has been controversial; she has apologized for holding anti-gay views in the past, including onstage during the debate, and she has been heavily criticized for meeting with the brutal Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and for questioning whether his regime carried out chemical weapons attacks. But Wednesday night, she appeared to cement her status as the very online right’s favorite Democratic candidate.

On Wednesday night, Matt Drudge, the reclusive Drudge Report impresario, tweeted that Gabbard had won his site’s online debate poll. As of Thursday afternoon, Gabbard was featured on the top left of the Drudge Report, with several linked headlines like “SHOCK: GABBARD WINS FIRST DEBATE POLL…” and “AND SHE IS MOST SEARCHED NAME DURING DEBATE.”

Breitbart News devoted a lot of its debate coverage to Gabbard, writing several articles about her. Breitbart writer Joel Pollak livestreamed his exchange with Gabbard in the spin room after the debate, the only candidate who got that treatment.

“The Drudge straw poll has you winning by far,” he asked her. “What was it that carried it for you?”

Gabbard gave a vague answer, beginning “I’m grateful to have had this opportunity here tonight to present who I am and why I’m running for president to the American people,” and Pollak asked her about a testy exchange she had with Rep. Tim Ryan over the war in Afghanistan. Pollak told Gabbard she “crushed” Ryan’s position and asked her “how the exchange felt.”

Pollak didn’t respond to a request for comment. “Joel just showed up as part of the gaggle,” Gabbard spokesperson Cullen Tiernan said in an email.

Gabbard’s sister tweeted from Gabbard’s account during the debate that the moderators were ignoring the candidate — “It’s clear who MSNBC wants to be president: Elizabeth Warren. They’re giving her more time than all the other candidates combined. They aren’t giving any time to Tulsi at all.” Breitbart News wrote the tweet up and tweeted, “The slow-motion coronation has begun.”

“The strategy is to speak with every single American because we all pay the price for decades of US failed interventionist foreign policy — not just Democrats,” Gabbard said in a statement to BuzzFeed News sent by a spokesperson. As for her sister’s tweet attacking MSNBC, she said “Look she’s my little sister — she was watching it live, and came to my defense as sisters do! I was on the stage so of course I wasn’t aware.”

Tulsi sues GOOGLE over censorship claims...

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a 2020 presidential contender, is suing Google over claims that the tech behemoth violated her right to "free speech."

In a federal complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Gabbard alleged Google censored her presidential campaign when it suspended their advertising account for several hours last month.

A Google spokeswoman pushed back on Gabbard's claims in a statement to The Hill, attributing the brief suspension to sudden "large spending changes" that set off Google's automated systems.

"We have automated systems that flag unusual activity on all advertiser accounts – including large spending changes – in order to prevent fraud and protect our customers," the spokeswoman said.

"In this case, our system triggered a suspension and the account was reinstated shortly thereafter."

Gabbard's lawsuit marks the first time a presidential contender has sued a large technology company over such claims.

The Hawaii Democrat's principal campaign committee, Tulsi Now Inc., is suing Google, accusing it of violating her First Amendment rights along with a litany of violations under California law.

"With this lawsuit, Tulsi seeks to stop Google from further intermeddling in the 2020 United States Presidential Election," the complaint reads.

. . .

"For hours, as millions of Americans searched Google for information about Tulsi, and as Tulsi was trying, through Google, to speak to them, her Google Ads account was arbitrarily and forcibly taken offline," it reads. "Throughout this period, the Campaign worked frantically to gather more information about the suspension."

"In response, the Campaign got opacity and an inconsistent series of answers from Google," it states.

Tulsi Gabbard Slams Kamala Harris for Jailing People for Marijuana Then Laughing About Smoking It Later

Tulsi Gabbard torches Kamala on Criminal Justice

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) slammed Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) for her record as a California attorney general and her hypocrisy over marijuana in one of the congresswoman’s strongest moments on the Democrat debate stage on Wednesday.

“Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor, and that she’ll be a prosecutor president, but I’m deeply concerned about this record,” Gabbard began.

“There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” she continued.

Harris famously said during an interview with the The Breakfast Club radio show that she smoked marijuana while she was in college while listening to Snoop Dogg and Tupac.

Harris has faced lingering questions on her tough stances as a federal prosecutor.

In 2010, she opposed an initiative to legalize marijuana, according to the Los Angeles Times. It was not until 2015 that she began calling for the decriminalization of marijuana, according to Elle Magazine.
