Sebastian Gorka: Why Ocasio-Cortez Isn’t Amusing

so you keep saying.

not sure definitive proof she eats hamburgers goes very far towards justifying that statement though.

I mean like, how dangerous can a [once] poor americunt from the bronx really be?

although Gorka is dead right with his headline point.

its not amuzing, the whole shitshow is absolutely hillarious.

While theses gaffes and the memes to which they give rise are truly amusing, the humor of it all shouldn’t give the Right a sense of security. The New Green Deal is a socialist plan for the largest redistribution of wealth the world has ever seen, and it will cost you $93 trillion.

The GND is “watermelon policy”—green on the outside and deep red on the inside. It’s socialism under the cloak of environmentalism. What’s more, the proposal isn’t merely the collected ravings of a fringe freshman congresswoman. The Green New Deal has been endorsed by a slew of Democrat representatives and senators, including some who think they have a shot at being the next president, such as Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).

Green New Deal = A "Suicide Note" from the Dems?

Are the Democrats Bent on Suicide?

After reading an especially radical platform agreed upon by the British Labor Party, one Tory wag described it as “the longest suicide note in history.”

The phrase comes to mind on reading of the resolution calling for a Green New Deal, advanced by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and endorsed by at least five of the major Democratic candidates for president.

The Green New Deal is designed to recall the halcyon days of the 1930s, when, so the story goes, FDR came to Washington to enact the historic reforms that rescued America from the Great Depression.

Only that story is more than a small myth.

The unemployment rate when FDR took the oath in 1933 was 25 percent. It never fell below 14 percent through the 1930s. In June 1938, despite huge Democratic majorities in Congress, FDR was presiding over a nation where unemployment was back up to 19 percent.

World War II and the conscription of 16 million young men gave us “full employment.” And the war’s end and demobilization saw the return of real prosperity in 1946, after FDR was dead.

Yet this Green New Deal is nothing if not ambitious.

To cope with climate change, the GND calls for a 10-year plan to meet “100 percent of the power demand of the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources.”

This appears to require a phase-out by 2030 of all carbon-emitting power plants fueled by coal and oil and their replacement by power plants fueled by wind and solar.

Will natural gas be permitted? Will nuclear power? There are 60 commercially operating nuclear power plants with 98 nuclear reactors in 30 states. Will they be shut down? Will the Greens agree to dam up more U.S. rivers to produce renewable hydroelectric power?

Air travel consumes huge quantities of carbon-producing jet fuel. What will replace it? Perhaps progressive Democratic candidates will set an example by not flying, and then by voting to end production of private aircraft and to ground all corporate jets. Let the elites sail to Davos.

. . .

Fifty years after the Great Society, apparently half the country consists of victims of oppression.

Who are their oppressors? Guess.

Among the endorsers of this Green New Deal is Sen. Cory Booker, who compares the battle to stop climate change to fighting the Nazis in World War II. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren have all endorsed it. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who calls climate change “an existential threat,” was an original co-sponsor.

Nancy Pelosi has more sense. Interviewed last week, the speaker batted the Green New Deal aside: “It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive. The green dream, or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it, right?”

With her own agenda and priorities, Pelosi does not want to be dragged into having to defend a document that reads like it was written by the college socialists club.

The question, though, is why Democrats, who, if nominated, are likely to face Donald Trump in 2020, are signing on to so radical a scheme.

In a presidential election, the “out” party candidate usually has an advantage. No record to defend. He or she can choose the terrain on which to attack the incumbent, who has a four-year record.

Rarely does an out party present a fixed and stationary target as exposed as this, as out-of the-mainstream as this, as vulnerable as this.

Cmon

When even "poor" Venezuelans have an average salary in dollars that is more than twice that of Americans, you surely have to concede the dollar is not really worth anything any more.

Some residual value left maybe from the UK desperately trying to keep the petrodollar alive.

But that ship has well and truly sailed now and we are deep in to "orderly unwinding"

Trump seems to have even just agreed with kim stop providing military support to south korea.

THE LITTLE BITTY HYPOCRITE - she's a boss among young hypocrites

Gas-guzzling car rides expose AOC’s hypocrisy amid Green New Deal pledge

190302-aoc-cars.jpg?quality=90&strip=all

...the woman who boasts of a “razor-sharp BS detector” seems to have trouble sniffing out her own.

Since declaring her candidacy in May 2017, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign heavily relied on those combustible-engine cars — even though a subway station was just 138 feet from her Elmhurst campaign office.

She listed 1,049 transactions for Uber, Lyft, Juno and other car services, federal filings show. The campaign had 505 Uber expenses alone.

In all, Ocasio-Cortez spent $29,365.70 on those emissions-spewing vehicles, along with car and van rentals — even though her Queens HQ was a one-minute walk to the 7 train.

The campaign shelled out only $8,335.41 on 52 MetroCard transactions.

“Everyone — top to bottom — used the MetroCards,” Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent told The Post.

By comparison, fellow freshman Rep. Max Rose — whose district is more than twice the size of AOC’s and, like hers, spans two boroughs — listed only 329 transactions for car services, totaling $6,091.29, campaign filings show.

In a district with limited transit options and a $17 Verrazzano Bridge toll, Rose spent only $732 more than AOC on gas and tolls — an indicator of personal car usage.

Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly attributed her success in beating Democratic incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley to walking the streets of her district, which includes parts of Queens and The Bronx.

“I knocked doors until rainwater came through my soles,” she tweeted last June, famously donating her worn-out campaign shoes to the Cornell Costume Institute for an exhibit about women and empowerment.

But Ocasio-Cortez and her staff appear to have done much less walking after she vanquished Crowley in the party’s June 2018 primary.

Instead, her campaign embraced the friendly skies, logging 66 airline transactions costing $25,174.54 during campaign season.

First time I read it I was like "meh so what, not like they started picking up the tab in the beast ,  London"

Then I saw the above gem.

Today's winners of the no shit sherlock awards.

Wonder what their next attempt will be?

Perhaps they could go with:

"Obama for president 2008 posters nowhere to be seen in run up to the 2020 election"

somehow i doubt she makes more than £10 million a year and then chooses to live in the bronx. so why would she need to avoid anything?

not as smart as telling everyone they got a tax cut then slapping them with a huge tax bill instead of a refund at the end of the year tho surely.

Deeper Discovery Into Origins Of The Green New Deal

By Patrick Wood

Internationally, the Green New Deal first appeared in England in 2008 with a 44-page report by the Green New Deal Group, simply called A Green New Deal. An excerpt appears below, concluding with a download button and a supporting video produced by a sister organization called the New Economics Foundation.

THE "WAITRESS PASS" has expired, Sandy

Ocasio-Cortez flips out after congressman calls Green New Deal ‘elitist’

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got into a heated exchange with a GOP congressman from Wisconsin after he called the Green New Deal “elitist” during a committee hearing Monday.

Ocasio-Cortez invoked her experience as a waitress while mentioning the water in Flint, Michigan, and flooding in the Midwest after GOP Rep. Sean Duffy mocked her ambitious plan.

“People are dying. They are dying,” she exclaimed. “And the response across the other side of the aisle is to introduce an amendment five minutes before a hearing.”

During the Financial Services Committee hearing, Duffy introduced an amendment to a homelessness bill that would impose “green” standards on the measure.

Ortiz: Call B.S. on Democrats Pushing Green New Deal Through in Parts

Friday on MSNBC’s “All In,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) commented on the Republican blowback to her so-called Green New Deal proposal.

After playing several video clips of Republicans linking her proposal to socialism and criticizing the cost, host Chris Hayes asked if she expected the “24-hour AOC and GND” obsession on conservative media.

Ocasio-Cortez said, “Well, I mean, it is next level. I didn’t expect them to make total fools of themselves.”

She added, “Frankly, I expected a little more nuance and a little more concerned trolling.”

. . .Democrats, facing conservative resistance to New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal,” are now pivoting toward other environmental legislation.

Ocasio-Cortez had an ambitious goal: 100% renewable energy by 2030, and a wave of “green” jobs to replace the ones lost in the abandonment of more traditional sources of power. But after heated debate with the other side of the aisle, many liberal politicians are pulling back from the freshman congresswoman’s radical vision.

On Tuesday, the Senate voted against crucial Green New Deal legislation. According to The Hill, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “set up the vote to test the Democratic Party’s unity over climate change.” Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey introduced the Green New Deal to the Senate in February, and sees this failure as a call for action from Congress.

“We’re now in the process where the hearings have started on the House side,” Markey said. “Committee after committee have had the first hearings that haven’t been held for eight years. And ideas and legislation will start emanating from committee after committee looking specifically at what has to happen.”

But even Ocasio-Cortez and the advocacy groups who lent their weight to the Green New Deal have started to back down. Josh Nelson, co-director of progressive group Credo Action, has adjusted expectations:

Right now, our ask for members of the House and Senate is to co-sponsor the Green New Deal. With a climate change denier in the White House, we don’t anticipate this or any other legislation we support being signed into law in the next 21 months.

The Sunrise Movement — a youth-oriented advocacy initiative best known for their sit-in at Nancy Pelosi’s office demanding action on climate change — is also taking a big step away. Co-founder Varshini Prakash told reporters on Tuesday that the Green New Deal was “never created with the intention of passing.”
