KITCO

Silver To Climb 11% In Next Three Months - German-Based Research Firm Kitco News

Buckle Up! It's Going To Be A Big Week Kitco News

Wall St., Main St. See Gold Price Rising During FOMC Week Kitco News

The Quiet Before the Storm Kitco Commentary

The next seven days can be huge for equities, metals and commodities. It all starts with the G-7, followed by the North Korean summit on Tuesday, the Fed on Wednesday and the grand finale -- Super Mario and the ECB -- on Thursday.

Any one of these events could have a dramatic effect on all markets, especially the metals. The equities have already broken out to the upside, especially the Russell and the Nasdaq, making all-time new highs. Most commodities are off their lows although were selling off the last few days.

That leaves us with gold, a market that has been in consolidation at the bottom end of the range for weeks. Gold, after peaking in April, has been under pressure, leading us to believe the next move is higher. We are looking to buy but will wait for a solid footprint to confirm our opinion.

. . . Silver is likely to reach $18.50 an ounce in third quarter of 2018, and maybe even hit 2016 highs of $21.50 an ounce by the four quarter, based on a combination of technical, sentiment, seasonal, and fundamental factors.

bczDs4k.png

The white metal is undervalued at current price levels and is expected to become one of the best performing assets, making it an ideal contrarian investment, according to Florian Grummes, analyst at Midas Touch Consulting in a recent report. He added that despite gold's recent plunge, silver still has a lot of room to catch up with the yellow metal.

In his latest report, Grummes said, "Especially as I expect a breakout in gold above 1,350 USD, silver has a lot of room to catch up with gold. The gold/silver ratio still trades just shy below 80 and remains far away from its long-term mean of around 65-67."

Grummes said that extremely low volatility in silver prices indicates a "market where neither speculation nor mainstream interest is apparent." Silver has been trading sideways the past three months. Technical analysis indicates that it has been trading in the narrowest range since 2002 when looking at Bollinger Bands, which could indicate a return of volatility soon, said Grummes.

Looking at traders' sentiment, Grummes sees the latest Commitment of Traders Report numbers as bullish. As of May 29, the cumulated commercial short positions was 35,297 contracts when silver closed at $16.36 an ounce.

"Usually a perfect contrarian setup is found when commercial hedgers hold less than 10,000 short contracts in the silver futures market. With the current 35,297 short contracts, a final sell off in silver is still possible in the coming weeks," he said.

. . . On the mining front, don’t miss David Erfle’s comments this week where he notes that the mood in the junior resource complex is nearing “contrarians dream” status. “Not only has the retail speculators' collective outlook become uber-bearish, one of the most respected newsletter writers in the complex has stated we are now in a gold bear market. At the Metal Investors Forum (MIF) in Vancouver last month, junior miner analyst John Kaiser began his opening remarks with this statement regarding the gold sector: ‘"We are back in a bear market and my own feeling is it is not clear what is going to take us out of the bear market any time soon.’”

But Erfle reminds us to keep in mind Rick Rule’s words of wisdom: are you a contrarian or a victim?

. . . This meeting will be the first of three significant events occurring over the next week with the United States-North Korean summit set to commence on June 12, and the Federal Reserve’s FOMC meeting to conclude the following day on June 13.

Although it is highly anticipated that next week’s FOMC meeting will result in an interest rate hike (according to the CME’s fed watch tool there is a 91.3% probability of a rate hike), it is the U.S.-North Korean summit that contains the most enormous amount of pure uncertainty of any of these events.

Invest in North Korea?  maybe not

North Korea continues to stiff Sweden over a bill for 1,000 Volvo sedans shipped back in the 1970s; a Chinese mining company called its four-year venture in the isolated nation a “nightmare”; and an Egyptian telecoms giant doing business there can’t repatriate its profits.

All of which explains why North Korea has a well-deserved reputation as a corporate graveyard for foreign investors. And that raises an interesting question as Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un prepare for a high-stakes summit on June 12 in Singapore

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-07/invest-in-north-korea-great-upside-cheap-labor-and-oh-so-risky

My theory:

For some years to come, only South Koreans will make money in the North

WINNING CAPTION:

Hundreds have had a go at doing exactly that on social media but one entry stands out – that of quick-witted MEP Guy Verhofstadt.

“Just tell us what Vladimir has on you. Maybe we can help,” wrote Verhofstadt, the former PM of Belgium who is now the European Parliament’s Brexit coordinator.

The winner is obviously a big consumer of Fake news.

Forget him, and the Lies he rode in on

Rising rates, deficit spell big trouble for USA, warns bond king...

Three takeaways ahead of :

1) Market bets that the Fed will underdeliver on rate hike guidance are no longer good bets

2) USD positives from a more hawkish leaning Fed are now offset by US protectionism

3) Impact of normalization poses a much deeper risk to than FX

--

So on to our call of the day, which comes from DoubleLine founder Jeff Gundlach, who has a dire warning on the U.S. fiscal situation.

“Here we are doing something that almost seems like a suicide mission,” he said in a fresh webcast about his DoubleLine Total Return Bond Fund. “We are increasing the the size of the deficit while we’re raising interest rates.”

“It’s pretty much unprecedented that we’re seeing this level debt expansion so late in an economic cycle,” Gundlach reportedly said, noting that both Fed fund-rates and the debt-to-GDP level are rising.  Still, the anonymous blogger behind the Heisenberg Report urges investors not to get too worked up over it. The problem, says the blogger, is that Gundlach is merely repeating what others have been warning and warning about.

Are we playing "Gundlach says" again?! Remember when Gundlach said "sell everything" two years ago? Yeah. That was 28% ago on the S&P.
