GENDER STUDIES, are really Grievance Studies, and there is NO justification for anyone studying such propaganda at a state-funded University. "Diversity" is not actual diversity, it is simply bigoted anti-white selection

Why you should think twice about majoring in women’s studies and theatre arts

(and Black Studies ... and Gender studies, too probably / but they dare not put that in a headline)

Salary_After_Five_Years.png

It is easy for young students to be dazzled when they hear that going to college will earn them an extra $1 million in their lifetime. Or when they see headlines touting high-paying majors and new graduates’ success stories.

But coupled with the advice to follow your passion, those cheery inducements lead many students to make poor decisions about going to college and picking their major.

It’s true that majoring in engineering and computer science can deliver the big bucks. But for many students who major in the arts and humanities, recouping their investments in higher education will take many years—even decades—if they are recouped at all.

North Carolina’s new NC Tower website reports education and workforce data from the North Carolina Department of Commerce. A quick look at some arts and humanities majors sheds light on the financial fate of UNC system graduates who remain in North Carolina to live and work.

The mean salary for all 2007-08 graduates with bachelor’s degrees was $37,318 after five years of work—not bad, especially considering that they graduated into a recession. The mean for all associate’s degrees graduates after five years was $32,431.  (Remember that the median household income in North Carolina was just $46,450 in 2013.)

But the picture for many arts and humanities graduates isn’t as rosy. Following one’s passion might pay off in job satisfaction, but it rarely pays off in financial terms. After five years of work, 2007-08 graduates in these fields make less than $30,000 per year, as the graph below indicates.

Are Blacks Choosing the "WRONG" majors ... simply because they are "Easier"?

(Including: These programs are Easier to get into)

RTR2DNV8-1024x672.jpg

More African-Americans are going to college than ever before. But according to new research from the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University, African-American college students are more likely to pursue majors that lead to low-paying jobs, setting up many for future debt and underemployment. And over time these occupational choices contribute to the wealth and opportunity gap between whites and blacks that spans generations.

“Basically, African-Americans have been going to the right church but sitting in the wrong pew,” director Anthony Carnevale said. “In a way they are using education to climb the social and economic ladder, but they’re being steered toward majors that will make them low-earners.”

African-Americans make up only a small percentage of some of the highest-paying of majors, including those in STEM and business. They’re only 8 percent of engineering, 7 percent of mathematics and 5 percent of computer science majors. Worse, Carnevale said even those who do major in high-paying fields, typically choose the lowest paying major within them. For example, the majority of black women in STEM typically study biology, the lowest-paying of the science discipline. Among engineers, most black men study civil engineering, the lowest-paying in that sector.

"they’re being steered toward majors that will make them low-earners.”

Er, ah, NO!

Maybe low acheivers find these programs EASIER:

Easier to get into, less work, and easier to graduate from.

They are NOT VICTIMS.  These people are CHOOSING = steering themselves

(I detest the persistent Victim Narrative you get from the Left.)

University works to reduce number of white people on campus...

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo works on massive diversity and inclusion effort

In keeping with the diversity and inclusion movement sweeping campuses across the country, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo recently released a 30-page report outlining plans to “improve diversity” via a series of initiatives.

One goal is to increase the number of people of color on campus beyond the increases that have already occurred over the past few years, as “applications from underrepresented minority students doubled between 2008 and 2018.”

“In 2011, the campus was 63 percent Caucasian,” the May 2 report informs readers, “in fall of 2017, it was less than 55 percent … but there is still much work to do.”

The public research institution states it wishes to get those numbers more in line with the state’s percentage of white people, which recent polls hold at 39.7 percent of the population.

. . . For students, the school plans on recruiting applicants more heavily based on race. For instance, the school has recently implemented several new scholarships “aimed at recruiting more African-American and other underrepresented minorities.” It’s also working to recruit low-income and first-generation students by partnering with high schools that enroll a high percentage of these students, according to the report.

MORE: At public university in California, only 13 percent of students are white

    ===

Hmm.  NOTHING to say about the QUALITY of people they are aiming to attract?

Doesn't matter, I suppose, if it is a third-rate or fourth-rate University (like Evergreen)

Institutions "of Higher Propaganda" have forgotten about Free Speech

Colleges Reject Students for Their Tweets — and for Those They ‘Follow’

Bradley Shear, an attorney who specializes in social media, recently shared a story about a client who was asked by a college recruiter why he “followed” conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Twitter.

“While one of my legal clients [a 17-year-old teen] was being interviewed by one of the most competitive colleges in the country, he was asked why he was following Alex Jones on Twitter,” Shear wrote.

“My client, a teenager, expected to talk about his stellar grades, top test scores, amazing extracurricular activities and volunteer work, but the interviewer focused on who he was connecting with online,” Shear continued.

“Many college admissions offices such as Harvard are encouraging anyone who has ‘digital dirt’ on an applicant or accepted student to send it to the admissions department so they can reject an applicant or revoke an offer,” Shear wrote.

“This happens regularly and finally made international headlines last year when Harvard revoked offers to at least 10 applicants based on their digital footprint,” he added.

College campuses appear to be policing potential students for conformity to the views of liberal professors: Democratic instructors outnumber Republican professors by a margin of approximately 10 to 1, according to an April 2018 study done by a Brooklyn College professor, as reported by The Washington Times.

Identity Politics Are Rapidly Destroying The Value Of College Degrees

I attended the College of William and Mary from fall 2014 until winter 2016, during the arguable height of social justice outrage. The infamous University of Missouri protests happened soon after I started school, where professor Melissa Click threatened a student journalist with physical violence.

At Yale, the Christakises were protested for arguing against over-coddling administrators telling students what they should not wear for Halloween. The Rolling Stone story, “A Rape on Campus” that was later found fraudulent came out during my first year of school. It’s not for these reasons alone that college was futile, but the leftist insanity that perpetually surrounded me certainly played a part.

This spring was set to be my graduation from college. Had I not sped things up and graduated in two years, instead of four, I would have walked across the stage, taken pictures with my family, and graduated with $40,000 in debt. I wouldn’t have been able to earn editing and writing experience (like bylines at The Daily Beast, Newsweek, Reason, and The Houston Chronicle). I recommend the same path to other young conservatives––escape debt and leftist indoctrination, if you can. Choose work experience, trade school, or a fast-tracked route through college instead.

College Often Isn’t Worth Your Time and Money

Elite colleges aren’t designed for critical thinking or open inquiry anymore. According to Catherine Rampell at the Washington Post, “A fifth of undergrads now say it’s acceptable to use physical force to silence a speaker who makes ‘offensive and hurtful statements.’”

The same survey indicates that about four in every ten students believes the First Amendment does not allow “hate speech.” Meanwhile, even at elite colleges like the liberal arts school Pomona, nearly 90 percent of students say their campus climate chills speech because they fear saying things others might find offensive.

Those illiberal trends are bad enough on their own, but the format of college also makes little sense. Its incentives are poorly aligned with what is valued in the workplace. Students are incentivized to be obedient and compliant, not to set themselves apart from the pack. Many college students end up slinging impressive-sounding extracurriculars together that any hiring manager can easily see through. Mastery of a skill, and understanding what will be valued in the marketplace, fall by the wayside.

At the Re-Education Camp Known as the University of Oregon, Fight Against Toxic Masculinity Costs $90K a Year

    manliness.sized-770x415xc.jpg

The University of Oregon Men’s Center recently revamped its mission to start fighting "toxic masculinity," now a monumental effort that will cost the student body nearly $90,000 this upcoming school year alone.

Founded in 2002, the Men’s Center initially served as a hangout for men to learn about healthy living and nutrition. But in early February, the Men’s Center was taken over by a young woman who announced that it would be overhauled to focus on social justice.

"We are working towards the radical idea of a socially just world. For far too long men have been absent from the discussion of social equality," reads a February 2018 announcement. "Our focus is to use social justice… to reconstruct what we know masculinity to be."

Now, the Men’s Center organizes events exclusively to fight “toxic masculinity.”

According to their website, toxic masculinity includes "outbursts of anger, emotional repression… when men engage in catcalling, physical touch without consent, and even just very obviously looking a woman up and down."

. . . Of course, because the Men’s Center is still technically a club, it is funded by mandatory student fees. According to the recently approved 2018-2019 Budget Book, a copy of which was obtained by PJ Media, the Men’s Center is slated to cost students $89,910 next year.

For comparison, the Jewish Student Union will cost students $4,100 next year, the Jam Squad is earmarked $275, and the Geology Club will get $8,150. PJ Media asked UO why the Men’s Center was approved for such an unusually high amount, but received no response.

. . . "It’s ridiculous that [the student government] allocates $90,000 a year to this organization," she said, adding that it is "detrimental to men when you use terms like 'toxic masculinity' and imply that… bad behaviour… has something to do with their manhood."

Obsessing on mythical Grievances makes people less happy... PROVEN !

    ( scientifically proven? from >

NEGATIVITY (& failure) get built-in by Negative scanning (looking for victims & oppressors)

There May Be a Scientific Reason Why SJWs Are So Whiny

It seems like all anyone ever does these days is complain. “Men are toxic!” “I got body shamed!” “We had consensual sex but he was bad in bed and I feel dirty for sleeping with someone I just met so it was assault!” On and on and on. Oh wait, sorry, did I say all anyone does these days is complain? I meant, social justice warriors. All SJWs do these days is complain. It’s like living with a three-year-old. Actually, no, scratch that. I actually do live with a three-year-old and he’s much more enjoyable to talk to.

It turns out there may be an actual scientific explanation for why SJWs just can’t deal. It’s called “neuroplasticity.” Neuroplasticity is the word scientists use to describe the fact that the brain is malleable. Until fairly recently, scientists believed that the adult brain was immutable. But this isn’t true at all. Research in the past ten years or so has proven that our thoughts can literally reshape our brains. Norman Doidge, a psychiatrist and author of The Brain That Changes Itself, says that the brain can “rewire” itself to “cure previously incurable obsessions and trauma.”

So, what does this have to do with SJWs? Well, apparently complaining is one of the things that rewires your brain — for the worse. Dr. Rick Hanson, a neuroscientist who authored the book Buddha’s Brain, explains that “negative stimuli produce more neural activity than do equally intensive positive ones. They are also perceived more easily and quickly.”  This is sometimes called “negativity bias,” meaning that our brains give more weight to negative things than positive ones.

The more you complain, the more you want to complain, and believe there’s something worth complaining about. This type of fixation on things we perceive as negative is called “rumination.” Margaret Wehrenberg, a licensed psychologist and author of The 10 Best-Ever Depression Management Techniques, explains that rumination is “repetitively going over a thought or a problem without completion.” She says that the brain creates “neural networks” to help us remember things. When we begin to fixate on something negative, the brain lights up what Wehrenberg calls the “‘woe is me’ network” and we begin to wallow in negativity. “Brain chemistry makes it hard to switch to another perspective to find the way out of problems, so rumination intensifies. Both anxiety and depression are then reinforced,” says Wehrenberg.

BEYOND BELIEF the Victim / Scapegoat Nonsense being taught in Schools these days

DISGUSTING Ohio Schoolwork Exposed by Shocked Parents!

Unfortunately in America, that has become a difficult characteristic to instill due to the evermore lackadaisical and offensive approach of the public school systems, who treat our children like prisoners.

Now, one school in Ohio has taken an inexcusable step into absurdity with a salacious bit of homework.

A school assignment rating “Whom to leave behind” based on things like race, religion and sexuality was given to Cuyahoga Falls Middle School students, according to a City Council member who brought it to everyone’s attention on social media.

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio City Councilmember Adam Miller (Ward 6)said the assignment was given out to students at Roberts Middle School, 3333 Charles St. Roberts Middle School is for students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

College Bubble Update: University Will Allow Students to Opt Out of Anti-Stress Program if They’re Too Stressed

School will not ‘punish’ students who are under too much pressure

Though Florida State University is mandating that all of its incoming students complete a program designed to mitigate stress on campus, the university will waive that requirement if a student is too stressed to do it.

It’s not clear how the public university will evaluate whether a student can opt out. An official with knowledge of the program emphasized to The College Fix that it was “manageable” and could even help students with “relaxation and stress management.”

FSU is rolling out a program this semester called the Student Resilience Project, intended to “strengthen student emotional and academic coping skills,” according to the program’s website. All incoming freshmen, as well as transfer students, will be required to finish a mandatory portion of the program prior to registering for classes in the spring.
