I wouldn't get in a stew about this lot. My kids use MacBooks at school and 90% of them have "cool" stickers blocking the camera lens and Blu-Tac blocking the mike (until they want to FaceTime).

 

None of them use face book or twitter. They use other odd stuff like SnapChat, Gab and Line. Basically fb and twitter are in decline. They will disappear in the not too distant future.

 

Unfortunately they still use google, although I'm trying to encourage them to use DuckDuckGoGo. They also use chrome for some odd reason.... so, a way to go, but some progress :-)

I was hungry for an alternative to the gladiator, short, sharp, hits that Twitter provides. I found a couple of spaces and they were ok, but didn’t satisfy my appetite. Finally I saw a Tweet from Laura Southern about this thing called Gab.ai as a new Twitter alternative. I dig Laura Southern‘s work with Rebel Media on YouTube. So I went to gab.ai and signed up. Boom! I was hit with a message that said I was in a waiting line of over 10k people. Bummer. I replied to Laura explaining the queue. I don’t know if she got my tweet, if she did and decided to help, was it because I’m just that cool (If so thank you Laura.)? It was likely a happy accident. Either way I was let in within a few hours. That was more than a week ago. Since then it’s been an amazing experience.

From my almost constant Gabbing, that’s what they call it at gab, I’m meeting an entirely different group of people that are not always ideologically in line with my right-wing views but still seem to have a layer of toughness that the snowflakes at Twitter are incapable of possessing.

Eric Trump on Friday exposed Twitter had censored a news story he shared showing great American job numbers.

In a Friday message to his followers, Trump showed how a tweet he shared from the Drudge Report Twitter account was blocked and labeled “potentially sensitive content.”

“Why are my tweets about jobs and the economy being censored?” Trump asked.

Eric was attempting to share a Drudge Report tweet from CNBC showing July job numbers grew by 209,000 jobs in July, beating the 183,000 expected job growth.

The shadow ban by Twitter underscores how the leftist social media platform actively works to hide tweets which reflect positively on the president.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Twitter also censored positive replies to Trump tweets, in addition to tweets sent out by Trump himself.

 

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has previously expressed support for failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

"If people aren’t allowed to write a thought provoking memo in a polite manner questioning corporate policies without being fired, we’ve lost an essential component to any halfway decent civilization - the ability to have a conversation without name calling and career destruction. If we’ve truly lost that, we are doomed."

 

As everyone knows by now, Google went ahead and fired James Damore, the author of the now infamous memo on Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber. In yesterday’s piece I remarked about how shocked I was by the extraordinarily charged and hyperbolic language being used by so many of those who disagreed with what Mr. Damore wrote. Indeed, the language and mischaracterizations of the memo itself were so completely unhinged in many instances, it’s hard for me to believe that many of these people even read it in the first place.

First off, while I happen to agree with a lot of what he wrote, that’s besides the point. If you read the memo it’s obvious that the author went out of his way to avoid triggering people who are easily triggered. Whether or not you agree with the conclusions, it was written in a respectful and measured way. He goes out of his way to clarify what he’s saying so as not to be misunderstood. Here are just a couple examples of what I mean:

 

I hope it’s clear that I’m not saying that diversity is bad, that Google or society is 100% fair, that we shouldn’t try to correct for existing biases, or that minorities have the same experience of those in the majority. My larger point is that we have an intolerance for ideas and evidence that don’t fit a certain ideology.
I’m also not saying that we should restrict people to certain gender roles; I’m advocating for quite the opposite: treat people as individuals, not as just another member of their group (tribalism).

Incredibly, people are calling this guy (who has a masters degree in Systems Biology from Harvard) a Nazi because he has a different opinion than the dogmatic prevailing consensus within what clearly is a Google echo chamber culture. He was politely trying to have a discourse about a topic he feels passionately about and did so in a respectful way. For that unforgivable act, he’s been deemed a misogynist Nazi and fired. I’m not the first person to note that by firing him for writing this, Google essentially proved his point regarding the company’s closed cultural and ideological environment.

Indeed, what Google did to this employee is a textbook example of “ritual defamation,” as Yale professor Nicholas Christakis explained in a recent tweet.

Despite being fired, James Damore will be just fine. There are enough people completely sick and tired of the authoritarian left for him to have countless opportunities.

My View: There's No genuine prejudice-driven GENDER GAP - just a Preferences difference

 

Let's learn more about the differences and ACCEPT them,

instead of favoring females in so many ways to try and achieve EQUALITY of Outcome

 

(But James Damore might not agree with this - would not have allowed himself to agree... based on his paper)

Unfortunately, there may be limits to how people-oriented certain roles at Google can be and we shouldn't
deceive ourselves or students into thinking otherwise (some of our programs to get female students into
coding might be doing this).
Women on average are more cooperative
Allow those exhibiting cooperative behavior to thrive. Recent updates to Perf may be doing this to an extent,
but maybe there's more we can do.
This doesn't mean that we should remove all competitiveness from Google. Competitiveness and self reliance
can be valuable traits and we shouldn't necessarily disadvantage those that have them, like what's been
done in education
Women on average are more prone to anxiety

The harm of Google’s biases
I strongly believe in gender and racial diversity, and I think we should strive for more. However, to
achieve a more equal gender and race representation, Google has created several discriminatory practices:
Programs, mentoring, and classes only for people with a certain gender or race
A high priority queue and special treatment for “diversity” candidates
Hiring practices which can effectively lower the bar for “diversity” candidates by
decreasing the false negative rate
Reconsidering any set of people if it’s not “diverse” enough, but not showing that
same scrutiny in the reverse direction (clear confirmation bias)
Setting org level OKRs for increased representation which can incentivize illegal discrimination
. . .
In addition to the Left’s affinity for those it sees as weak, humans are generally biased towards
protecting females. As mentioned before, this likely evolved because males are biologically
disposable and because women are generally more cooperative and agreeable than men. We
have extensive government and Google programs, fields of study, and legal and social norms to
protect women, but when a man complains about a gender issue issue affecting men, he’s
labelled as a misogynist and a whiner. Nearly every difference between men and women is
interpreted as a form of women’s oppression. As with many things in life, gender differences are
often a case of “grass being greener on the other side”; unfortunately, taxpayer and Google
money is being spent to water only one side of the lawn.
