    GOLD

I'm hoping to buy back in and make more money when they realise that there isn't any more money I just need the heads of states to keep talking positively long enough for gold to drop about 10% then I'll buy back in. No, I am not sure. I actually don't know what I am doing at all. I am just trying to go with my gut for once. I still have some money in, so if I'm wrong I still make a little more.

    GOLD

It's quite difficult to know what to do. There is a lot of bearish reports on gold. The new high, as I see it is off the back of China being accused of hoarding (and not) and predominantly Greece falling out of the euro. The chinese released a statement saying that they are not hoarding and the french are offering support for greece. On top of that I have been reading about a European monetary fund which will presumably be there to support situations such as that that Greece is going through. So I think that Gold has momentary high here. So I will sell 60% of what I have and buy back in at lower support level. Hopefully this goes well

The reason Uk PROPERTY PRICES WONT FALL YET!

Wouldn't they have been better off just handing the keys back to the bank and renting and buying later? I think that people would have felt less honourable doing that (maybe, I am taking a guess) so they didn't, but as I understand it, it's common practice in california to hand the keys back to the bank if the value of the property drops below the mortgage. Maybe because of this? I read somewhere that the 50's stagnation was because the parents who went through the great depression taught their kids to not borrow (or at least not stretch). It would be worrying if it all happens again. Although I always thought the 50's looked like a fun decade

I think this argument works if you assume house prices remain stagnant or increase. If house prices fall this argument falls apart. So it's a gamble to stay out and a gamble to get in. Ultimately if you buy and keep the house for the 25 years your ok. If you buy and need to sell during a decline you lose, maybe with extreme consequences such as bankruptcy. Or if you can wait then the money that you would have used to service your loan could be used in low interest savings (hopefully matching or running ahead of inflation) or more risky in stocks and commodities and then with a house price decline you could buy a much better house and live much more happily

Good point, thanks for posting that chart. It does tell a good story. Looks like the pound may have some way to go yet!

    GOLD

I have been following the gold price for a few years now. I have some invested, although I don't buy and sell, I just buy when I think it's low and then wish I sold when it was high. When there is a high like this we usually get a month or so of the price increasing, followed by a big drop. I have heard a few say sell in may and go away, but I think it's more like April now. I will probably give it until the end of this month then sell half of my holdings. This isn't a very technical or chartist approach, it's just my relatively short experience in trading. Also, how comes this board fills up with posts when gold drops and is relatively quiet when gold is rising? In terms of the pound, gold is rocketing

    I'm Baaack !

I think it's great you do this gf. As I said before, somebody does (although I don't quite understand the analogy with bored kids and seagulls). Maybe you could change your Avatar to this

    I'm Baaack !

I am not offended or looking for a ban. Just wondering where the line is or what the requirements for a ban are. I understand the mods have a hard job, it's not the most rewarding but someone has to do it, so I respect them for standing up and taking on the task. It's just once people start being banned it could be a slippery slope towards censorship where your not allowed to talk about house prices going up.... oops, wrong site You get what I mean. And although I don't like seeing people banned, I don't like reading squabbles either. I am still finding it hard enough to understand what you guys do and how you do it, without the nonsense. However, I do enjoy the teasing and ribbing if it's all done and taken the right way. p.s. Chazza, were you 'The Chuz' ?

    Global House Price Crash

Ok, that's all sad to hear. Thanks for the link.
  14. Guys, I just tried to look at GHPC and it went to the dreaded HPC website. I have searched the forum and I can't see any clues to what may have happened. I used to post quite a bit (for me anyway) on HPC and then moved/got banned during the google wars of 2004 I just got bored of the discussion after so many years and I haven't really being logging on there anymore. I was reminded today of all the excessive moderation that went on over there and the safe haven that consa set up for all the refugees and got a little nostalgic. But I can't find it! Did it find a new home? Indium/Boredwaiting(GHPC)
