  1. I don't want to get into a debate into the whole is there global warming/is it manmade and all the various permutations but, regardless of your opinion on such issues .......... It must be recognised that there is a promoted shift (often financially assisted) from creating heat/hot water supplies away from traditional methods of combustion creating heat then transferred through an exchanger into heating to the compression of refrigerants to create the initial heat source. A movement away from old and gas (carbon emitting) to refrigerants. It must be recognised that it is less polluting (when contained and controlled) to use a refrigerant than the combustion of volatile fuels. The same could be argued regarding nuclear energy sources however they are often frown upon and can't see anytime soon where we all have or accept a small compact nuclear reactor pumping away every time it feels a bit niipy It must be recognised that in a claimed warming climate society will rely more on not JUST heating but also cooling in the form of air con etc for our comfort. We're are not conditioned anymore to just put an extra 'pully' on when we're cold or sit in our boxers with a cold beer when it's hot and humid. Business itself accepts that production is reduced once temperature creates an excessive +\- climate. So in my mind we are seeing an increasing market in using refrigerants as an energy source with regards to heating/cooling and the market will only be getting bigger and more competitive. In all systems there are components which will see an increase in demand. From the pumps to circulate, the compressors to generate heat or cooling or indeed (and probably more interestingly a less competitive marketplace) the refrigerants. Pumps. Traditional systems require a single, maybe two circulation pump generally where as systems converting solar/air source and ground source require two maybe three meaning an increase in demand per application. I have however found that the major players like Grundfos or Wilo are not performing greatly. Too early maybe? Worth continued exploration. Compressors. Used to compress a gas into fluid state thus generating heat. This is a new component in heating systems and as such demand will grow. I don’t, however, have enough experience of manufacturers of such a component to weigh up their continued longevity and as such have left it alone for now. it’s early days. Refridgerant. This to me is the biggie. Possibly THE replacement for OIL or GAS in the conventional heating cooling system …… I’ve been looking at Daikin who have performed very well over the past 5 years since ‘Green Energy’ lost it’s impetus. Not only do they manufacture the technological equipment, they also develop and manufacture the chemical and remember 10 year or so ago in a marketing meeting with them in the UK them claiming that their competition were actually stifled by the fact they have to buy refrigerant from Daikin. Mitsibushi is the market leader in air source product but other division of the Mitsubishi mean, to the best of my understanding, investing relies on all their interests including their automotive etc. concerns. The elephant in the room with refrigerants I know is that one day, someone somewhere will centre in on the GWP potential of regrigerants. When they’re common place, when they leak gases into the atmosphere, when they’re fly tipped on a layby in the countryside because it’s cheaper than recycling (think 80’s fridge freezers) then the backlash will come. Your thoughts?

  3. What can we learn from Wakanda .......... ? That fiction has no borders. The original stories were written in the mid to late sixties in a world very different to now ............ you should know that Dr Bubb ........ you were there whilst I was just a twinkle in my Dad's eye. There were still swathes of land across the globe undiscovered and as such, stories of exploration and discovery were left to the imagination of the reader to dream. Many movies of the time (before and since) would use 'the unknown', whether it be through global or space exploration, to heighten this great thing that all human beings have ...... imagination. All Black Panther is doing is appealing to that continued human interest. +

I don't want to make any criticism of your viewpoint but may I just ask to consider yourselves for one moment, that your 'belief' maybe has led you to accept that the world is a certain way and that you are failing to question your own viewpoint of reality. Consider that 'the steeple' just could be yourselves, or perhaps the victims of fanaticism in a belief system of any kind. Human history has all through history thrown up 'Idealism' which has challenged conventional progressive thinking. Many cultures and traditions have been lost through wars of 'difference of idealism' since recorded history began. It's what we have always fought for. This is what powers this war. It is intolerance, from all sides ......... Some are intelligent to fight the war based on what sp'oil's they can acquire, or what they seek to protect. 6. You know what I care about ......... Love. I've been ripped apart through my whole life. I've given every penny, every effort, every strain if my friend, family or friends have needed me. I've got nothing. ive given everything. I'm happy. I understand much, teach much but seemingly learn little ..... Possibly know little.
  7. Yet there will be no riot. There will only be control. You will adhere. Complicit. You will behave. You will accept your ill gotten gains. So long as you've not yet lost you will forget. You will disappear. Until we come for you. Who then will listen? In a time where where complacency is equivalent to complicity? We know who you are. We know where you live. We know you. Join us, we are not your enemy ... But neither do we forget .........
  8. And btw, no White man can yet understand what we're thinking about.
  9. These are my heroes. people who have died for their principals. You all talk conspiracy, alternative thought yet you sit complacent behind a small screen. Waiting for some kind of 'safe' signal where you can come out like some closet supporter. Where have I been for the last few years? Fighting. ' you have been so damned lazy, and you have let him run away with the whole world ' In death we can be a TERROR!
  10. if you are not willing to lay yourself down on the principals which you preach then your pricinpals are just rhetoric. Your life is just wasted. You have not made a difference. http://youtu.be/8rCiCQPDmb8
  11. There is no party promoting love, commeraderie and kinship amongst people. Only riots can do this. I have experienced riots. You would not believe how much the above qualities are in abundance in such adversity, regardless of ethnic, religious or economic position. Take the power back.
  12. How many small steps make a stride? Essentially we all want to live peaceful and safe lives. We do not need regulation to control us. We need to control regulation to stop them from controlling us. Riot please.
  13. But that's a choice they WANT you to make. Don't give them the choice. There are thousands of them, there are millions of us. Riot please.
  14. Sorry maybe I seem old and cynical but what is the point? What representation of opinion is there when a choice of idiot 1, idiot 2 or idiot 3 is offered. Give me a defence minister who has fought or lost his seed in a real modern war. Give me a choice of a education minister who has been privileged and succeeded in teaching the underpriviliged. Give me a choice of health secretary who have stood over a child crying tears in frustration whilst it fights for its last breath. Don't offer us these limp dick, dim witted, sound bite addicted pricks. Only through real diversity are heroes found. Riot please.
  15. In all honesty Ive no time for UK politics or politicians, I'd prefer anarchy. When someone with a major in history can be made 'Chancellor of the Exchaequer' rather than an offering of someone, sorry ANYONE, who has both studied, experienced and succeeded within the field of economics with no choice or recompense to the electorate my confidence is exhausted. Please Riot. Voting will not rectify this.

  17. Retrofitting suburbia - the next huge development project Ellen Dunham-Jones puts a case forward for retrofitting suburbia in this interesting TED talk. Though her arguments are good, is this just a case of decorating a dead christmas tree? http://www.ted.com/talks/ellen_dunham_jone...g_suburbia.html Ellen Dunham-Jones fires the starting shot for the next 50 years' big sustainable design project: retrofitting suburbia. To come: Dying malls rehabilitated, dead "big box" stores re-inhabited, parking lots transformed into thriving wetlands.
  18. Absolutely agree. It's an attempt to demonize the independent tradesman by characterizing them as rogues. I deal with the independent tradesman daily and at a guess I'd say 10% of their income on average is undeclared but the reason is not always to surreptitiously avoid paying tax. On occasions jobs are done under the monika of "mate's rates", sometimes to keep the tradesman below the VAT threshold and often these transactions are done to help out those in society who can ill-afford the service (and thus for reasons that are closer to an act of humanity rather than immorality). I know of many, many examples of a company previously mentioned in this thread blatantly trying to mislead clients in ways that would make independent 'rogue traders' that appear on the tube look like angels.

Still awaiting an explanation Dr Bubb. I personally found this quite offensive and have taken this as you saying 'please fuck off' (to paraphrase the language used in your post) Perhaps I've misunderstood, I hope so ........... or perhaps we're operating on a different frequency, but until I get some explanation ......... I'm outta here except to check back for your response.

Not really sure what place this post has on a 'music' thread Dr Bubb. I don't understand your post. Please explain.
  22. re : Water Storage. It's notably dry in the South East UK with a good 1/2" - 1" crust formed already over my allotment where I'm yet to dig over so it's out with the covers to try and keep the moisture in until I'm ready to turn the ground over. To give weight to the above this happened just under a week ago ............... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-17471663 Hose pipe ban starts at the beginning of April.

I meant the bottle. It appears just to be a fancy bottle of Grolsh but I can remember listening to a radio show where that particular sound is created by a 'named' instrument rather than a bottle. Burial tune is one I like.
  24. 1. For reasons I've already outlined I don't harvest rainwater. My allotment is surrounded by hill on one side with bracken and gorse (which can make some good compost) and on the other by a comparitively small water reservoir. Rules allow you to fill a watering can for watering in times of drought (which in the South East UK is an issue with drought orders already on standby after a very 'dry' summer and winter) in which case it's out with the hose to get water near to the crop then manually filling the watering can. 2. I manually dig over the ground and use manure/muck which around these parts is generally free to collectors. A group of allotment holders usually club together and pool resources (i.e trailer and 4x4 vehicle plus labour) and get a load in which we then barrow to our plots. I compost waste from the allotment too and burn timbers etc. which I use to 'neutralize' areas where weeds are troublesome. 3. You are supposed to do a PH test of the soil but as mentioned above, it's hard work to change it and I'd probably recommend raised boxes where soil can be adjusted easier for crop that grows poorly on untreated ground. How do I choose crop to match the soil? ........... trial and error. Part of the fun (at least, until failure becomes expensive) is making a mistake and discovering why. I had a bad case of onion white rot on my plot last year so this year they are being grown in isolated raised beds with fresh, brought in compost. It'll be a good 3/or 4 years before I can grow them straight from the ground.
  25. I may put a few turnips in next month but not my favourite tbh and not often used in everyday cooking in my household. Though water supply is to be considered, the allotment is rented off the local council and part of the rent ( £16 a year total ) is for water supply. If it were to be my own land and water supply was metered then water capture and storage would be a greater consideration.
