Major Volcano eruptions... and Earthquakes
Major Volcanic eruption in Chile
=========================

reposting from fringe as the satellite photos seem to be quite convincing.

It looks like there has been another major volcanic eruption, this time in Ethiopia, but getting no media coverage.

http://earthquake-re...a-and-ethiopia/

With the eruption in Chilie, and Icelands volcano still rumbling seems to be more than normal. Don't expect this one will directly affect flights though from where it is.

At least it looks like a remote area of Eritrea.

'CHAMPAGNE EFFECT' COULD HELP PREDICT VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS
Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Earthquakes can set off volcanoes by shaking up molten rock like champagne in a bottle until they explode, a study suggests.
The research shows that volcanoes erupt up to four times more often after a large earthquake than they would without the seismic agitation.

The effects of an earthquake can be felt hundreds of miles from the epicenter and are powerful enough to wake dormant volcanoes.
However, it can take so long for a surge of molten rock to build up enough pressure to cause an eruption that several months can elapse between the trigger and the volcanic explosion.
The link between volcanoes and earthquakes has long been suspected, but the new research has provided the first statistical evidence.

Powerful quakes again hit New Zealand's Christchurch

Oh Dear (not again!):

A series of powerful tremors rattled the quake-prone New Zealand city of Christchurch on Monday, destroying buildings and sending boulders tumbling down hillsides nearly four months after a quake killed 181 people.

There were no reported fatalities. New Zealand's Civil Defense said 10 people suffered minor injuries in the quakes, with the strongest put at a magnitude of 6.0 at 2.20 p.m. (10:20 p.m. ET on Sunday) local time.

Buildings were evacuated and infrastructure damaged across the city, still trying to recover from the February 22 6.3 magnitude earthquake.

Monday's quake knocked the New Zealand dollar lower and was seen as another hurdle to rebuilding New Zealand's second largest city, likely encouraging the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to keep interest rates on hold for longer.
. . .
As with the initial quake, Monday's aftershock sent boulders on the city's Port Hills tumbling toward houses. Parts of the eastern city which suffered the most damage in February's tremor suffered from flooding and liquefaction - where solid ground is turned into liquid by the force of the quake.

New Zealand's GNS Institute said the earthquakes were within the expected pattern after February's tremor and could well trigger fresh seismic activity.

"We would expect a number of aftershocks in the magnitude 4.0 to 5.0 range on the coming days and weeks," said Kelvin Berryman, GNS's Manager of Natural Hazards Research.

Volcanic Eruptions

June 11, 2011 – CHILE - Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcanic eruption heats Nilahue River- leads to death of 4.5 million fish. The river has turned into a black slime.

The volcanic firestorm erupting across the world is a sign that the planet is now tilting towards geological upheaval. The magnetic reversal is accelerating and the sea-floor under the Pacific Ocean is spreading. Earthquakes are increasing around Japan and in the Pacific Ring of Fire and the Pacific plate is now experiencing increasing amounts of seismic tension. We are on the eve of witnessing destructive geological changes to this planet unknown in our lifetime.

Below you are going to see pictures of a series of volcanoes that have been blowing their stack mostly in the last few months but some go back to early in the year. These are only the visible volcanoes though; there are thousands of underwater volcanoes. We see some possible evidence of one as fish are continuing to die in large numbers in the Arabian Gulf waters, reports Al-Mustaqbal daily. Kuwaiti expert on the impact of climate changes on Kuwaiti marine environment Dr. Thamer Al-Rasheedi said test results showed a remarkable rise in temperature of sea waters compared to the previous years.

A large number of fish died in Kuwaiti waters recently due to decrease in oxygen levels in the water. Currently there are many fish die offs that are plaguing the world with no one putting up any kind of comprehensive explanation. Seems to me the inner earth is exploding up incredible amounts of toxic materials into the atmosphere and waters, materials from our planet’s bowels and this stuff just does not sit too well with biological life.
. . .
End of Times?
So far in 2011, we have seen a record number of tornadoes, unprecedented flooding, rampant earthquakes uncountable in number, disturbing volcanic eruptions and a tsunami in Japan that none of us will ever forget. So why are there so many natural disasters in 2011?

Our top scientists seem to be at a complete loss to explain what is happening. It just seems like there is one disaster or emergency after another. Many Americans are getting “disaster fatigue.” There has never been a time in recent history when we have seen so many natural disasters compressed into such a short period of time. So exactly what is going on here? Is something causing all of this or is this all one big coincidence?

The Bible gives us a frightening and apocalyptic vision in the book of Revelation. Many dismiss Revelations as nothing more than a religious fairy tale. But as we look around at the devastating toll earth changes that have already taken place on our planet this year alone we can easily come to the conclusion that we are now living not a fairy tale but a full blown apocalyptic disaster show.

“And there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time.” Daniel 12: 1

So we are not surprised that reservations for a doomsday bunker in the U.S. have rocketed since Japan’s catastrophic earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown. Actually when you add up all the types of disasters that are coming to us in plague proportions, record snow, cold, hail, rain, floods, drought, fires, heat, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, and earthquakes we have reason to be very concerned for all of these natural disasters destroy agricultural production.

A 137,000sq ft underground bunker hyperlink added – designed to house 950 people for a year and withstand a 50 megaton blast – is currently being built under the grasslands of Nebraska. Vivos, the California-based company behind it, is taking $5,000 (£3,100) deposits, which will have to be topped up to $25,000 (£15,600) to secure a place. It says applications have soared 1000 per cent in the wake of the disasters in Japan. That 25 thousand must be for coffin size bedrooms like we find in Japan. I have gone the other way and build my Sanctuary in a deep valley in the middle of continental South America in Brazil.

NASA last week released a video to its own employees warning them strongly to prepare their families for disasters. NASA is proud that it is the only federal agency that is charged with the safety of its people both here on earth as well as in space above.

Comment on that Daily Malicious article:

If it triggers the La Palma collapse, a global recession will be the least of our worries!

Ah, don't worry everybody. It's overhyped. Stop thinking now.

WE experienced "Earth changes" up close and personally last night.

You may have heard of the Typhoon in the Philippines : News.
It arose shortly after severe Coronal Mass ejections at the beginning of the week.
(I reckon there must be a connection, though the weather forecasters may not acknowledge so.)

The remnants of that storm passed through Hong Kong last night, and strong winds were blowing all night, making it almost impossible to sleep. The 42 story building under construction next to us was not fully prepared for such a storm, and we have heard things flapping in the wind all night. In fact, this is still going on as I write this. (This has been the worst storm of the year, and maybe the strongest winds we have experienced since we moved in here.)

I shall jog around it later this morning, and see what damage I can observe.

Iceland Katla Volcano Eruption feared

Spewing volcano forces Spain to close island port

Buenos Aires airport halts flights due to volcanic ash

Oct.17th was one of those handful of days highlighted for possible Major Earth changes.

The next one is Nov. 3rd

Just now, there seems to be an Earthquake swarm near Katla:

An increase overnight of seismic actvity in the vicinity of the Katla volcano in southern Iceland has heightened fears of a possible eruption.
Katla is located on the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which is the southernmost glacier in Iceland and is almost 600 km2. It is situated to the north of Vík í Mýrdal and to the east of the smaller glacier Eyjafjallajökull, where an eruption in 2010 caused major disruptions to air traffic throughout western and northern Europe in April and May 2010. The caldera is 10 km (6 mi) diameter and is covered with 200–700 metres (660-2,300 ft) of ice.
Sixteen eruptions have been documented at Katla between 930 and 1918 at intervals of 40–80 years. It has not significantly erupted for 93 years, although there may have been small eruptions that did not break the ice cover in 1955 and 1999. The 1918 eruption resulted in extending the southern coast by 5 km due to laharic flood deposits.

In the early hours of today, 05 October, an intense swarm of earthquakes was registered in the Katla caldera; the largest of these earthquakes had a local magnitude of ~3.7. Most of the ongoing seismicity is sourced at shallow (< 5 km) depths.

Commenting before the latest (14-15 Oct., 2011) earthquake swarm, the IMO said there were no measurable signs that an eruption of Katla was imminent.
“However, given the heightened levels of seismicity”, the IMO added, “the situation might change abruptly. Monitoring teams at IMO are following the ongoing activity closely, and sensor-based networks around the volcano ensure that all seismological, geodetic, and hydrological changes are detected.”

Airlines: Chilean Volcano's Ashes Ground Flights

RIO DE JANEIRO October 17, 2011 (AP)

Airline officials say an ash cloud from a recently reawakened volcano in southern Chile has once again forced the cancellation of scores of flights in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

In statements released Monday, Brazilian airlines Gol and Tam say the cloud from the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano appeared Sunday. The volcano has been sporadically active since June.

The statements indicated that the problem is affecting airports in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay, and involves both domestic and international flights.

I notice the article states

The volcano has been sporadically active since June.

Just in case people might have, mistakenly, thought that all these volcanoes erupted on "major earth change day"

EDIT Also see the russian one has been erupting regularly since 1999 (erupted last month too)

The most recent eruption of Young Shiveluch started on August 15, 1999, and continues as of 2010.[2]

Underwater Volcano Eruption of El Hierro .. 17/10/2011

Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) confirmed on Tuesday that an underwater eruption has occurred five kilometres off the southern coastline of El Hierro, the smallest of the Canary Island. The eruption is Spain's first since the eruption in 1971 of the Teneguía volcano on the island of La Palma (Canary Islands). RapidEye has made available a satellite image of this eruption.

The IGN says all three of its seismic stations on El Hierro in the Canary Islands have registered a volcanic tremor of low frequency in the south of the island at La Restinga, the southern-most village in the Canaries. The estimated 537 residents of the town were summoned to a local football field on Tuesday afternoon to be briefed on evacuation procedures.

A Red Alert has since been issued by local authorities for the town. A notice posted on the Emergencia El Hierro website on Tuesday evening stated that the situation was in phase pre-eruptive.

Now now Dr B,
As I pointed out on the volcano thread, not all of these volcanoes started today, indeed, one started a few days back, one has been erupting for over ten years, so it’s a little naughty to try and link them to the Oct 17th “major earth change day” wouldn’t you say?
Besides, even if these had just erupted out of the blue today

That’s right, 20 every day!
Doesn't seem such an interesting day after all now, heh?
For more info, see
http://www.volcanolive.com/

Oct.17th is the date on the News Releases that I posted

Let's see what the news looks like tomorrow and also in a few days.

Canary Islands and Katla hold potential to be major disruptions.
I am hoping that NOTHING more happens - I do not want bad news.
Yet this seems to want watching now.

Volcanic Eruptions at El Hierro Continue as Sea Stain Grows

By Mark Johanson | October 17, 2011 12:32 PM EDT

El Hierro, the smallest of the Canaries, has experienced over 10,000 earthquakes since July 19, 2011, a signal that magma is rising toward the Earth's surface. The majority of the earthquake activity shifted from El Golfo in the island's northwest to beneath the Las Calmas Sea in the south earlier this month.

Ramon Ortiz, coordinator of a government science team, said in a statement on Sunday that the emission of sulfur could be the first of four stages of the eruption.

"The second stage could see a column of white smoke, the same color as steam, which will then give way to some explosions that are black in color," he stated, noting that the explosions wouldn't put the population at risk.

According to Ortiz, the final stage could be "the creation of a small island from which a flow of lava could spread."

The market is "bipolar", swinging back and forth from a focus on Inflation to Deflation. Bet on swings; and stay flexible. What are bipolar markets? See: http://tinyurl.com/GEI-Manix
