DrBubb's Diary - Feb. 2017 Trading - v.97

================

The Fed's Racetrack: Gold (GLD) vs Stocks (SPY) ... update :vs.CRB : GLD-hr : SPY-hr : GLD/SPY-Ratio //: sjw :

FEB-FRT_zpsx4ee6oir.gif

The Fed's money-printing has maintained confidence in markets - but the money has gone not only into stocks, but also into other areas. For many months, money flowed into commodities like Gold, pushing prices higher even faster than stocks, as the chart above shows. But since Gold's peak in Aug.2011, stocks have outperformed gold. These two now seem to trade counter-cyclically to each other.

"US Stocks-in-Euros" ... SPX-to-FXE or SPY-to-FXE Ratio ... update

FEB-SPX-inFXE_zps8xgunhf2.png

This Ratio seemed to move in a nice clear channel - Moved above it, and may soon break down, leading SPX down.

DrBubb's "Early Warning System"

Leading Ratio ... LQD:TLT-Weekly-3yrs : TLT-vsLQD : Copper : HG price : CU price : SPY-10/11 : SMH-6mos

FEB-LQDetc_zpsace8vjn1.png

I reckon that the LQD-to-TLT ratio should move in harmony with stocks, or maybe LEAD stock moves. If they are moving in different directions, then one should be cautious. By the end of 2014, we saw a FULL YEAR of decline in this would-be bellwether, yet SPY has gone on rising. So the value of this indicator has become suspect.

Get Ready, Cycle Analysis Indicates The Market Will Drop In The 3rd Quarter Of 2017:Charles Nenner

COMMENTS

He thinks the Euro will split into a northern and southern Euro.

He's long EUR now, think No-EUR could be the strongest part of global economy.

He expects stocks to slide in Q3-2017, and over several years to 2021, will fall to Dow-5,000.

The drop in Q3-2017 will be "much more than 10%"

(since I am now in the Philippines, I will copy these notes here too as well as in the section under: http://MakatiPrime.com)

Shift towards Office Space?

This is being talked about more and more, as the realty of OVERSUPPLY becomes more apparent in the Residential sector.

The ads and articles will not tell you this, but the Vacancy rate for Residential flats in Makati is now probably over 10% -

versus maybe 1% of Office space. And this comes at a time, when Residential completions are running at record levels:

In 2017, perhaps 25-30% will be added to Residential condo supply. Even a remarkable take-up rate of more than 20%, is likely to push up the vacancy rate to 15% or more by the end of 2017. This does not bode well for Rents and prices of residential flats. As developers are seeing resistance to further price rises, they are beginning to push the concept of Home-Offices, Small-Office/Home-Office (SOHO), and mixed use.

So we are seeing articles with headlines like this: ( SS-53, in Manila Bulletin, 2/2/2017)

Lack of space in metro pushes developers to go 'mixed use'

"For decades, the term 'mixed use' was utilized by developers to inform buyers that a home or unit the are purchasing is not only for residential use but may be for commercial use too."

... most prominent reason... the traffic situation is not getting better... cars on the roads are doubling or tripling on roads that are not expanding...

... moving from Makati to Quezon City takes over an hour when it should be a 20 minutes drive

Considering this, developers have encouraged the rise of SOHOs or the "small office, home office" concept. With their buildings equiped with Internet fiber connections, working at home suddenly seems possible. Online conferencing is doable and online selling becomes a lucrative endeavor.

... everything a resident needs is just a few steps - or even an elevator ride - away

... For relaxation, there's a roof deck; for personal needs, there's a coffee shop, a courier, a clinic at ground level.

... For businesses, the mixed use building even has spaces such as conference rooms, audio-visual rooms, even a private theater

Some projects mentioned in the article include:

+ Rockwell Primaries' The Vantage at Kapitolyo in Pasig : with a 2-storey retail area

+ Greenfield's Zitan Residences, which is directly connected to the metro, and has fiber connectivity

+ Ayala Quezon City development has been called "a city within the city", where mixed use living is highly practical

ALL THE PEOPLE

Wow, As promised Trump's Press secretary, Sean Spicer, is taking questions from Skype

Sean Spicer Takes FIRST EVER Skype Questions At White House Daily Briefing

During the press conference, he took FOUR questions via Skype.

And there were from broadcasters in places like Cleveland and Appalachia, which are OUTSIDE the Washington Bubble.

Are we really starting to see government for ALL the people?

(it must have been a wakeup for the Washington Compost and the NY Slimes reporters, whose jobs are now under threat)

A good suggestion from six weeks ago - let's see how it worked out...

IF BRAVE enough, Buy some Calls on Gold shares

Gold could break down here, or it might be a terrific buying opportunity.

It might be worth a gamble

NUGT
nugt_zpsmqyabdkw.gif

I did not let the whole position run.

I have sold down 2/3rds of the Nugt-$4-calls: 1/3 at $6.50, and 1/3 yesterday at $7.70.

There was a nice profit of over 260% on the latest sale.

It is rare to make more than 2-3x your money on at-the-money, and in-the-money calls that I like to trade

KITCO articles

=== ===
Trading the job print suggested a sell print, with January jobs well above consensus estimates of 180,000. The number north of 200,000 should have prompted traders to sell, as it would have placed a March Fed hike firmly on the table. Prices, however, reacted higher, likely because of downward revisions in previous months and a slight reduction in the wage index. Traders took it as a set-up for an excuse for the Fed to wait in March, which hurt the dollar and pushed traders to cover some shorts. I don’t think the Fed is watching employment that closely any more. They are focused on inflation and Trump’s fiscal policies. Suggest that this is a kneejerk reaction in the metals, but will be more inclined to be optimistic should gold close above the $1,222 level, at least from a technical perspective. The Dow has recaptured 20,000 and it feels like there is good momentum behind the move.
. . .

A bullish brew of fundamentals are simmering in the pot for gold and other precious metals prices this year. Industrial metals have stormed out of the starting gates and are already racing around the track – leading the charge for metals bulls this year, and gold and silver aren't far behind.

Year-to-Date Gains Platinum + 10.83% Palladium + 10.55% Silver + 9.51%; Gold +5.88% S&P 500 + 2.50% Source: barchart.com, cnnmoney.com through Feb. 3, 2017

The first and foremost support for the precious metals complex may well come from the new Trump administration that has spearheaded a reversal of a decades long strong dollar policy. Let's take a look at what that means.

kitco_Feb3.png

President Trump is talking down the U.S. dollar and so far it's working. For decades U.S. government officials have attempted to "jawbone" the dollar higher in a strong dollar policy.

  1. The Death of the Decades Long Strong Dollar Policy

. . .

While the “US Dollar is too strong” rhetoric continues from the new US Administration, the record long hedge fund position from last month in the US Dollar continues to unwind. This is bringing more longs into bullion as the very important 100 level on the USD Cash Settle Index has now been broken, even before a dovish Fed voted 10-0 to leave rates un-changed this week. Uptrend line support is at 97 on the index and could possibly get there on this move down, which began on the very first trading day of the year.

I am now looking for gold to hit the $1250-$1270 area on this move with the GDX possibly hitting 28-30 before a correction of 15-20% in the index takes place. Sentiment in the sector has remained weak as the miners continue to climb a wall of worry, while leading the gold price higher. Many of the quality miners have been breaking out of individual consolidation patterns as well during this rebound off of strong support in the GDX at $22.50. As mentioned a few weeks ago in this column, I believe $1225 gold should get the GDX to the $25 region. A weekly close above the $25-$26 level in the GDX and $1225 in gold will further solidify the case for a major bottom being in place for the sector.

TRUMP on the Stay:

'When a country is no longer able to say who can, and who cannot , come in & out, especially for reasons of safety &.security - big trouble!' Trump tweeted.

'Interesting that certain Middle-Eastern countries agree with the ban. They know if certain people are allowed in it's death & destruction!'

'The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!'

3CD3200600000578-4191110-U_S_District_ju
The state's attorney general, Bob Ferguson, said: 'This decision shuts down the executive order right now. No one is above the law - not even the President'.

While judges have ruled against previous presidents in the past, including Barack Obama and George W. Bush, they were not known to have personally criticized judges for their decisions.

The White House slammed the judge's ruling as 'outrageous' and vowed to appeal as soon as possible on Friday night. The temporary restraining order represents a major challenge to Trump's ban on immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

Judge Robart made his ruling effective immediately on Friday, and Customs and Border Protection immediately alerted major US airlines that it will begin to reinstate visas.

Kevin MacDonald & Andrew Joyce - Leftist Violence in Trump’s America

Published on Feb 3, 2017

Dr. Kevin MacDonald has a Ph.D. in Biobehavioral Sciences and is an expert on Jewish influence and identity. He is also the editor and chief contributor of The Occidental Observer, an online publication that focuses on White identity, White interests, and the culture of the West. Dr. Andrew Joyce is a scholar, speaker, and writer with academic expertise on immigration, ethnic and religious conflict, and philosophy. Andrew sits on the editorial advisory board of The Occidental Quarterly and is also a regular contributor to The Occidental Observer.

Kevin and Andrew return to Red Ice for a fascinating discussion on escalating Leftist violence, Trump’s presidency, and much more. We begin by looking back on Trump’s first two weeks in office. Kevin discusses the hysteria on the Left, while Andrew tells us that he is pleasantly surprised to see Donald Trump deliver on his promises. We talk about the Trump administration’s plans to cease monitoring “White supremacist” organizations, and instead direct its counter-extremism efforts towards radical Islamists. Later, we switch gears to consider the increasingly violent nature of the Left and the future of civil unrest in America. We discuss the recent riots at UC Berkeley, Black Lives Matter, and Inauguration Day violence. The first hour also covers the petition to ban Trump from the UK and the specifics of his 90-day travel ban.

THE STREET ARTIST of Don Bosco

A mentioned this woman at the last Meetup. Almost every morning, she sits with her art outside the Don Bosco church.

Though she has a tough life, she lives by sharing the beautiful dreamy images from the inside of her head.

Artist-40pct_zps1ug3woow.jpg

Look at these pictures - They are Joyful! (despite her hard life.)

Artist-MessagesX3_zpsdp9qs4hu.jpg

I cannot read her messages, which are written in her own language,

but I am told they tell of an illness, and her need for money.

And also maybe some past documentaries that she was in, or was involved in making.

I give her a little money everytime I see her. And she gave me permission to take the above photo.

I pass other beggars, and sometimes I give them money too. But not always. This one, I always give her something.

Why? Because she wants to share something. She does not just want money. And it is inspiring that whatever challenges

that she may be facing, she can still find beauty in life... and wants to share that.

I would buy a picture too, if I had a place to hang it.

(Tony C):

LONG TERM: uptrend

The Primary wave III bull market continues to unfold, but has spent the most part of the last two months trading above and below the OEW 2270 and 2286 pivots. For the year, which is about 5 weeks old, the SPX is up 2.6%. The wave pattern/labeling we have been tracking remains unchanged.

spxweekly.png?w=640&h=485

Since we are expecting a relatively long Major wave 1 of Primary III, we started the first waves with an Intermediate labeling i and ii. The second set of waves is a subdivision of Intermediate wave iii: Minor waves 1 and 2. From the Minor 2 low in early November, just before the election, we have been expecting a Minor wave 3 to unfold. Thus far it still looks too short to be all of Minor 3, as it is barely longer than the previous Minor 1 uptrend (216 pts. v 202 pts.). In the meantime while the market sorts itself out there are a couple of more important points that should be noted.

Should the market enter a correction soon we are likely to see only a 5% decline. Should the market clear SPX 2336, the last potential B wave count, then we can expect 1 – 3 years of bull market activity with the SPX reaching 3000+. Should the market drop below SPX 2084, then the B wave has topped and we are likely in a C wave bear market.
