I meant to apologise to my good friend Schaublin for making him look like a fool on this board. It was childish and insensitive of me and I was indeed the "moron" for allowing my judgement to be clouded by dangerous nonsense such as "facts" or "historical evidence to the contrary". I was fully deserving of the ad-hominem attack that followed; a short, sharp selection of the finest non-sequiturs known to mankind put me firmly in my place.

Hope this clarifies things ;-)

PS. Relax, dude! It's only the interweb!

You have disappointed me again - why not have the decency to say clearly what is on your mind without this oblique approach? For the record, you compared my assertation that Churchill was a war-monger with pixies at the bottom of the garden.

I understand that you have an incomplete knowledge about the events surrounding the start of the war and presumably this is because your sources of information come from allied 'historians'. I do not blame you for this but I would urge you to consider looking at archived newspapers from Hungary, Poland, Germany and the Soviet Union (which cooperated with Germany and grabbed half of Poland) for some alternative views. The language barrier of course is a problem for the historian but some books are translated into English.

It may interest some readers of this forum that large areas of Germany were 'absorbed' into Poland at the end of the war and the German inhabitants were deported or murdered.

Ganz falsch, mein freund.

Thanks for the alternative history lesson. I must confess that I never stopped to think that the history books might be biased towards the interests of the victors. Can we now get back to the original subject of discussing what a great guy I am?

Indeed. I think that would be, as you quite rightly say, "realy :lol::lol:". Perhaps you'd like to join us and sit on Schaublin's knee? I fear I'd be blown off stage by the finest double-act since Keith Harris and Orville, but I guess that's the sacrifice one must make for great art.

I would like to see more of RH, cgnao, pluto, bigtbigt and others who used to be regulars.

The key thing is to be polite to each other and "do not treat others how you would not like to be treated".

I would welcome back Romans Holiday. He always spoke well with an interesting and well reasoned point of view. His view was to have a core gold possition but hold some dollars (as well as some other currencies) as dry powder in the expectation of a dollar rally. The dollar has tanked and gold has rocketed but he might still be right, but I prefer GF and cgnao strategy of buy and hold.

Of course. You prefer to call me a shill TROLL or whatever suits your agenda

At least 'troll' has 5 letters.

Suspending me would just make your day.

Sorta.

Meanwhile you ramble on about the need for alternate points of view to keep you grounded in reality

Yes. But I'll still ban you if you do too much potty-mouthing.

How about we suspend you for being a hypocrit?

At least I don't use 4-letter words.

"Suspending me would just make your day."

Sorta.

The honest truth is, I would have done the suspension myself yesterday had it not been 1am, and the process

was more time-consuming than I wanted to do at that hour.

So, AAK, take that as a warning.

There are going to be more 24 hour suspension here, and I encourage all the Mods to try this.

(In some cases, we will suspend both sides of a mud-slinging contest, which might seem unfair to the party that

received the first bit of mud in his face, but I cannot and will not spend my precious time trying to work out

who is the guilty party. If someone here thinks they can be a good judge of such squabbles, please come

forward and volunteer to be a potential Moderator.)

I hasten to point out that we are going to get it wrong sometimes, and maybe for a while we will err on the side

of suspending too quickly. This needs to be tried, because like the rest of you, I am getting tired of the abuse,

and the strains place on what had been a gentlemanly culture here.

errr - I am sure Laura is a woman....

But I agree - we need to keep this place 'friendly'.

I do think that some people on gei could start a fight with themselves in a lift though!

If i called you a little prick is it going to make any difference?

You are happy to see people kicked around if it suits your agenda

The stupidity of exstreme anarchism arising from infantile fantasies on this board is a welcome tool for people like you. The more insanity the better. You want chaos.

AAK, you make a lot of assumptions about me.

Firstly, as a 'gold bug' I have seen a lot of dogs barking up my tree, some of them were quite nasty.* Second, I don't kick people around, never. Third, insanity is what the bankster in London and the central banks do - the less the better. Finally, I don't want chaos, I want functioning (& free) markets with minimal government meddling.

* EDIT: Personally, I am fairly indifferent towards what people can be bothered to call me. But as a mod, I just won't tolerate certain things said to whomever.

As far as i can see the mantra or myth of 'let there be free markets' is what has created the mess we are in.

We have today a system where the banksters are the regulators and they did nothing and were no doubt pleased to be told that 'free markets and deregulation' were the best way forwards.

The board too needs freedom of speech - which we dont have if people like you and Dr Bubb are moderating with an agend but it also needs rules that will be enforced.

Somebody like me is able to be a gentleman. In my era gentlemen settled things with their fists if they could not get satisfaction and before my time it was pistols or swords.

This board allows people to be insulted and delights in it when the agenda is advanced.

All you get is a group of people who are all confirm your own ideas

You say you dont want that but it is what you are creating.

AAK, you are really a piece of work.

No. In a free market things would have imploded several times before, in less damaging ways (just take LTCM in 1998). What we have is socialism for the rich, NOT free markets. (I thought that was very obvious.)

Again, unproven assumptions. The only moderation action I have ever taken was to increase Swampy's and in another case fitkid's warning levels. Now, from your POV, these are certainly people who push 'my agenda'.

You see, things are more complex than they seem.

EDIT: BTW, I have not voted on this poll, and I haven't voted in any of the recent polls, including the one after which I was made a moderator.

Why does it sound like to me that you begin your answer with an insult??

So i am a piece of work

Perhaps you would like to clarify what you meant by that in the spirit of gentlemanly cooperation please

If you read what i wrote i am agreeing with you about socialising losses.

People deserve better of you if you want to be the person who decides what is fair and just and reasonable as moderator

Otherwise you may as well just put on the nazi uniform or be the evil goldfinger

Folks, I have been reluctant to post here since I am not a regular poster but I might as well give you a few tips since I have moderated more forums than I had women (and I had quite a few women so don't even think of using my statement against me).

It's all pretty simple.

1) If people with strong/diverging opinions start leaving, the forum dies. You may feel a slightly fuzzy and warm feeling of satisfaction when your internet arch enemy leaves, but the truth is that most likely you just exasperated him to death which is hardly an achievement.

2) It's about being respectful. Extremely respectful and tolerant. And no swearing, that's the best way you keep things under control, as you may have realized in real life.

3) Have clear rules or you risk misunderstandings. Accepting a 24/48 hr ban (or whatever punishment you are given) is much easier if you know exactly which rule you broke. Also, this way, whoever administers the ban won't look like a moody dictator but more like a cop.

So rules (or, to use a term you guys probably understand better, REGULATIONS)

4) List all offences and consequent punishments in a nice, tidy thread where only administrators can post. This is good cos a) it's always good to keep records when to comes to potentially inflaming stuff like forum posts on the internet and b ) everyone knows what's happening.

And remember:

Really good post! 100% agree with this!

Another thing I would add is that usernames with duplicate IP adresses should be banned straight away. On another forum I visit, we had whole pages of someone ranting and another backing up the first, then tag team on anyone that didn't agree, then turned out it was some poor delusional chap who was talking to himself!

People just need to be more tolerant of other people's opinions and that's the end of it IMO. The door should be left open to anyone that can respect the temperament of this forum.

The only change I would like to see here, is intolerance to porn/overtly graphic images posted on GEI. I look at this site in front of my son and when I'm in the office and now I have to be extremely careful, I would welcome an official stance on this.

FWIW

You supported me on the definition if fiat and i appreciated that and as i recall you supported me on another occassion when it was appreciated

But there seems to be a tag team running around involving a few people here and when you say something others then support you. I am not expecting people to support me but members of the tag team seem happy to watch me deal with stupidity until you support me and then back you up while continuing to be stupid about me.

If the board was working better this kind of tribalism would not be present and all people would be ensuring that stupidity was discouraged.

I am not really talking about you here but rather the tribe or tag team that seems to be present around where you post in those areas that interest you
