Welcome Back, from "the cooler"

Recommended Posts

Pixel8er is a top quality poster who contributed some great posts and I think you should explain why you think he should be banned.

I was a little tongue in cheek Azazel....

I maintain a hard line should be held against those attempting to lure posters to a new board...this is bad form imho.

Pixel has some great posts & research, however he is somewhat a one trick pony holding an unflinching position, so I can understand RH`s position.

Water torture springs to mind...

But consider this all you libertarians - if it is this difficult to run a bulletin board with just a few thousand members then how difficult is it to run a country and balance the needs of the population against the needs of the few.

the best way to balance the conflicting wants of people is a free market. :)

anything else requires force.

PS. libertarians are socialist numpties :P

Yes, I thought that was the problem. It was the same on HPC too. Those who are pro gold and those who are not. The tounge in cheek bit is disrespectful to a well respected member. Its this disrespect to others that needs moderating as it has been damaging to this site imo.

Hang on Azazel, my post was responding directly to Pixel, not seeking a ban so please do not distort my words...

Aside, There are many that are progold, as I am, but I also seek out alternative views.

IMO Pixel had been disrespectful to other posters who countered a different view than his own continuous gold ramping, not to mention taking jabs at those who perhaps keep a core physical holding but then also paper trade.

I also welcomed many of his posts..

Quite a few of those on here.

On another note, as a matter of fact, we got rid of almost all the gold bugs. :o

Congrats everyone!

(Oops, let's not get emotional as a mod...)

By the way, do you know the percentage of GEI posters that hold gold? It would be an interesting mumber..methinx there are plenty still here but also hold other investments too.

Which gold bugs have you got rid of?

Actually, I have no problem with Pixel posting here, he has made many valuable contributions.

But he should go light on the 24K promotions, and invitations, and stick to making worthwhile comments.

By now, I think he has probably taken at least as much from the site as he has contributed

Dyn Inc. Story from DynDNS.org in 1998 to Today

The Dyn Inc. story is not unlike many tech start-up stories. The difference is that our story started during the dot-com boom, survived through the bust, thrived after the dust settled and surges ahead today. Deep-rooted as an Internet infrastructure company focused on the domain name system (DNS), the company has always put its customers first. Today Dyn Inc. is positioned much different than its competition, as a company its clients and users take pride in working with and supporting. That started at day one.

Like many of its Web 2.0 customers looking to monetize, Dyn Inc. has been there, done that. Similar to featured clients Twitter, Meetup, Bit.ly, Scribd, Twitpic and Wikia, Dyn Inc. started as a free service, based out of a college apartment. A couple guys with a big idea. That service, then operating as DynDNS.org, was a dynamic DNS service for a home user to host a website on their home computer or remote access back to their PC. Over time, as the user base grew and became more demanding, Dyn Inc. turned to a donation-based service in an effort to stay afloat and add complimentary services. Later, Dyn Inc. transitioned to a recurring revenue software-as-a-service (SaaS) model with a suite of IT services aimed at the home/SMB market.

Fast forward to 2005 and the story of maturation continues. Dyn Inc. initiated a customer audit and mining exercise of the over two million active DynDNS.com users at the time

It's possible to receive from GEI.

Is is possible to take anything away?

I think that many of the problems that we have seen could be solved by letting OPs "own" their threads. The problem is the software won't really allow, and we don't have enought mods to enforce such a policy, i.e. that a thread owner can remove unwanted posts/posters.

I think you are misunderstanding my point.

I am saying people receive from this site.

They don't take anything.

Experience?

I'm not following

...

You question was 'Is is possible to take anything away?' my answer was experience. By reading other peoples investment strategies, plans, hurdles, opinions, etc I am able to take their experience home away with me.

You can only 'take' by giving too much. ;)

I'm not following (really)

Posting too much cr@p or waffle takes from the forum.

The dispute about what constitutes cr@p or waffle is what brings people on here to the edge of sanity* (at least recently). In the end, that's what all the banning is about, I would say.

Which brings me back to the solution (IMO): on their own thread, everyone determines themselves what should be moved.

EDIT: *It's just like that fact that people want their own flats, and not share. E.g., while some think that white tiles in a living room are the best thing since sliced bread, others get a puky-puky crisis just from thinking of it (white tiles in living rooms, I mean).

I'm glad you're speaking for yourself.

I've never taken any thing from this forum. Everything I have read remains for others to read.

I know where your coming from with this one... but do you think Px is one of those in the 'posting too much cr@p group'? (post #34)

It is irrelevant what I think. Important is, that different people think differently about it, and this causes tensions. The recent hickup including some well-known posters shows this.

Well needless to say, "I don't agree with you". I wouldn't have asked you the question if I thought your view was irrelevant.

I'll ask you the same question another way...

Is that aimed at Px?

Goldfinger, your suggestion could work like this:

Someone starts (so owns) a thread. Someone else disrupts thier thread so they ask them not to post on their thread anymore. The disrupter continues so the thread owner complains to a moderator who informs the disrupter that these are the rules and violation will result in a ban, which will lead to a ban if not complied with.

I would agree with a rule such as this and I cant see how it would cause much work on the part of the mods. In fact it would delegate oversight of the site to all the thread starters. Mods wouldn't have to go into the details of a quarel so it would save allot of hassel.

Yes, that is exactly what I've suggested some time ago. That way someone who is going on about ugly white tiles while standing in someone else's living room that features white tiles will get thrown out. He'll be allowed to go on about how hideous white tiles are in his own living room, but only as long as he does not use 4-letter words or other bad manners.

Public threads could be declared as such (e.g. the gold thread) and would therefore have to bear the brunt of more heated discussions.

I deleted your extra posts.

This comment was not aimed at anyone. Although, an easy victim as he's not with us anymore, swampy would have fallen into that category. IMO (almost?) every poster who leaves is a loss, because the diversity makes this place interesting. But people operate on different tolerance levels. Bubb for instance is very tolerant in general.
